Headed to Phoenix
Moving past "cool tools" to find sustainable infrastructure for AI and journalism.

Next week, I am trading the Pennsylvania winter for the desert.
I am heading to the National Journalism + AI Accelerator at Arizona State University.
This isn’t just another conference trip for me. We are at a specific pivot point in this industry. We have spent the last year watching AI generate content and run experiments. Now we have to figure out how to turn those experiments into sustainable infrastructure.
That is the shift I have been writing about here on Backstory & Strategy.
It is also the work we are doing at the American Press Institute.
I will be there wearing both hats. I want to talk about the Impact and Trust Platform we are building at API. We are working on tools like Source Matters and Metrics for News to help newsrooms measure what actually matters to their communities.
I also want to connect on the leadership side.
If you are reading this and you are going to be in Phoenix, then I want to meet you.
If you aren't going but know someone who is, then please send them my way. Forward this to them. Tell them to find me.
I land Monday night around 7 pm and will be in town until Thursday afternoon. I am staying at the Best Western Downtown Phoenix.
Let’s grab a coffee or find a few minutes between sessions. I want to know how you are thinking about the transition from “cool tools” to real operational change.
Reply to this email or send me a note.
See you there.
Yoni
