Off the Clock
Thoughts from the in-between hours — what I wrote, what I learned, and what’s next.
Congrats, we made it through another week — nice job.
With the Eagles on a bye, my wife and I are driving our son to North Jersey for a friend’s bar mitzvah on Saturday, then visiting an open house for a creative arts camp in West Chester, PA., where he’ll attend this summer on Sunday.
In between? Chores, errands, and of course, working on content for next week.
Here’s what I published this past week, in case you missed anything:
The Platform We Forgot About
Creators are rediscovering Facebook, but they never stopped using YouTube. I look at what that means for journalism’s future and the platforms we might have written off too soon. From Policy-Shaper to Can-Collector
A look at how journalism drifted from driving systemic change to organizing charity drives — and what that says about our shifting sense of purpose.Beyond the Dilemma: Embracing the Hard Choice
We talk a lot about “tough decisions,” but this one’s about what happens when both options are right — and wrong — at the same time. What If America Had a Media Wallet?
Europe’s exploring a new idea — a shared “media wallet” for paying for journalism. I unpack why it might work there, and why it probably wouldn’t here. The Anatomy of a Bad ‘No’
Saying no is part of leadership. But doing it badly can cause real damage. This piece breaks down what separates a “hard no” from a “smart no.”High-Five Friday
A lighter piece about a former colleague who made Fridays better with a simple gesture — and what it taught me about connection, recognition, and small moments that matter.
If there’s a topic you’d like me to tackle, or a question you want answered, just hit reply. Otherwise, have a great weekend — I’ll see you Monday.
