Practicing What I Preach
After an inspiring week in Chicago, I’m taking a long weekend. Here’s why “off” time is essential for doing our best work.
I spent this past week in Chicago meeting with a dozen news organizations and leaders. They were inspiring visits. The conversations I had left me feeling hopeful about the future of local journalism.
But that kind of inspiration takes real energy. Now that I’m home, I’m feeling pretty rundown.
It’s a powerful reminder that we all need to step back and recharge.
In our “always on” culture, it’s hard to do. When you work remotely, it can be so easy to blur the lines between work and not-work, so that time to be truly “off” feels more important than ever.
This isn’t just for our own good either. We have to take time to rest so we can bring our best, most creative selves to work. Our organizations benefit as much as we do.
So, instead of putting out some half-assed content, I’m going to practice what I preach.
I’m taking a long weekend to recharge. Mind. Body. Soul.
My week-in-review piece will still publish on Saturday, and I’ll be back on Monday with new content.
P.S. - If you found this post helpful, would you please consider restacking it and sharing it with your audience?
This spreads the word and keeps me writing the types of content that you have enjoyed.
